Achieving Mastery

I just got home from seeing Cirque du Soleil's new production “Michael Jackson: The Immortal Tour” and while it wasn't the “typical” Cirque show, it was still really good with their usual high production, crazy costumes and some pretty crazy antics. The reason I say it wasn't the usual Cirque show is that although it did have some high flying acrobatics, it was less about spectacular feats and more focused on the musical stage show. Still cool, just not the typical Cirque show….

That being said, the performers still brought their “A” game and did some pretty spectacular stunts. I won't go into detail about what all went don't because that's the the point. If you've seen Cirque du Soleil before you know what I mean. It's insane…

The level that those performers are at is absolutely amazing. The amount of hard work, and the total hours that they spend to perfect their craft is nothing less that total commitment and dedication and it shows.

The take away from this all is that in order to be mind-blowingly, crowd wowing awesome in your life, you need to apply the same level of dedication. You need to be extremely passionate about what it is you do, because if you aren't you'll never put in the time to perfect your skill to the level it should be.

It's not just about doing something over and over and over again either. You need to be instructed, critiqued and coached in order to achieve perfection.

If you think these Cirque performers got so good just by repetition alone, you'd be mistaken. They undergo some bad ass training by the world's best coaches to get to the level they're at. Check out the video below. Pretty amazing stuff.

So what do you need to do to be mega successful?

First thing is BE PASSIONATE about what you do. If you aren't in love with what you do, you're won't be willing to put in the time, energy and focus to be the best. You need to ooze passion.

Next, you need to master your art. Spend hours and hours to sharpen your blade. Nobody wants to work with those who aren't the best. Be the best you can possibly be.

Be coachable. Be willing to be critiqued. You need an outside perspective from someone else who is a master in order to fine tune yourself which will take you from great to mind blowing. You want to be mind blowing.

Claim it. You've worked hard for it. Enjoy the rewards, but don't be a jerk about. So you're really, really good at something. Good for you. Be humble. Nobody likes a jerk.
